Tim Grant
Tim began playing music at an early age with piano lessons at age eight. He was given a huge Harmony Dreadnought guitar by his father at age 9 and Tim begin guitar lessons at age 10. By the time he was a teen ager Tim was learning songs he heard off the radio. Throughout school Tim played trombone in the school band which helped when learning bass as trombone sheet music and bass sheet music are written in the same range on the bass clef (the bass just sounds an octave lower).
Tim later attended Radford University and earned a Bachelor's of Music with a concentration in Education. Beginning in the mid 90's Tim worked as a music educator. Teaching both in the public schools and private lessons in the afternoon and evenings. On the weekends and evenings Tim played in a variety of bands mainly focusing on jam bands and jazz. Tim played upright bass in the Intrepid Jazz Trio for nearly 20 years. At the same time Tim had began to get calls to record bass in local studios where Tim played both upright and electric bass in a variety of styles.
Tim's ability to learn music quickly, groove with a band, sing backup harmonies, and bring any band to higher levels has given Tim a reputation as a first-rate session bassist. Tim is currently dividing his time between 5 local/ regional bands as well as recording and free lancing with bands when requested. If you are in need of a bassist please feel free to contact Tim directly.
